Their investment strategies encompass direct lending, GP strategic capital, and equity investments. Highly regarded for their commitment to responsible investing and integrating ESG factors into their investment processes, they are seeking a Principal for Responsible Investing (Equity) to join their team.

Job Description:

ESG Integration Across Equity-Related Strategies: 

  • Leadership in ESG Integration: Direct the incorporation of ESG factors into the firm's equity-related investment strategies, including GP Strategic Capital, Strategic Equity, and Health Opportunities (venture). 

  • Framework and Process Development: Develop and implement ESG frameworks and processes tailored to various investment strategies. 

  • Due Diligence: Lead all ESG integration and related diligence in underwriting for the firm’s equity-related strategies. 

Portfolio Engagement Strategy: 

  • Comprehensive Strategy Design: Formulate and implement an extensive portfolio engagement strategy for all equity-related investments. 

  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with investment and portfolio management teams to ensure ESG considerations are effectively integrated into portfolio management and investment decision-making. 

Investment Team Partnership: 

  • Advisory Role: Act as a partner and adviser to investment teams, offering ESG insights and support. 

  • Empowerment of Teams: Enable investment teams to integrate ESG factors independently, without directly performing the tasks for them. 

  • Committee Participation: Attend investment committee meetings, contributing to due diligence and portfolio management processes. 

Quality Assurance and Training: 

  • Development of Tools and Templates: Create and ensure the effective use of ESG integration templates and tools by investment teams. 

  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to associates and investment teams on ESG-related matters. 

  • Quality Control: Conduct quality assurance on ESG templates and processes completed by investment teams. 

ESG Risk Analysis Implementation: 

  • Proprietary Tools: Ensure effective implementation and integration of the firm’s proprietary tools and processes for ESG Risk Analysis. 

ESG Monitoring and Reporting: 

  • High-Quality Monitoring: Ensure high-quality ESG monitoring and portfolio management on underlying companies and GP Partner Managers within the investment portfolios. 

  • Reporting and Data Collection: Manage ESG-related reporting and data collection as relevant, and coordinate robust ESG portfolio management. 

  • Investor Reporting: Responsible for all ESG investor reporting and requests for the named strategies. 

Strategic Projects: 

  • Leadership in Strategic Initiatives: Lead strategic ESG projects, including the development of portfolio engagement approaches and other critical initiatives. 

  • Collaboration with Senior Management: Work with senior management to define and execute ESG-related strategies and goals. 

  • Support for ESG Team Projects: Assist with other ESG team projects and priorities. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 10-15 years of relevant professional experience in Responsible Investing for private markets, impact investing, ESG for corporates, management consulting and/or other sustainability-related roles. 

  • Proven experience in ESG integration or similar roles. 

  • Strong background in asset management, preferably within private markets. 

  • Deal experience, capable of understanding and assessing investment deals from an ESG perspective. 

  • Experience in value creation, portfolio engagement, stewardship, and/or adding value to underlying investments. 

  • Experience working with multi-sector investment portfolios, secondaries, healthcare, and/or fund of funds. 

  • Core skills in ESG-related due diligence in private equity, M&A, or relevant investment strategies in private markets. 

  • Experience collaborating with investment teams, portfolio management teams and/or management teams of underlying businesses. 

  • Familiarity with and working knowledge of relevant frameworks such as EDCI, GRI, and SASB. 

  • Strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal and influencing skills, and demonstrated success in managing complex projects or programmes. 

  • Ability to work autonomously, with strategic problem-solving skills. 

  • Low ego, high collaboration with a focus on practical outcomes. 

  • Ability to grow with the firm, contributing to its long-term sustainability objectives.
