Company Description:

Our client is a European Alternative Asset Manager, specialising in Real estate and private credit. We seek a Real Estate ESG Specialist on a 6-month FTC contract, who will be responsible for designing and implementing policies and procedures, particularly in alignment with their Article 8 funds and GRESB framework integration.

The business is UK-based with a presence across Europe with c.£70bn AUM or which £8bn are within the Real Estate business. The company is fast-paced and progressive with c.500 people across a range of locations. This role can be based remotely within the UK (some European locations may also be considered) with some travel required.

 

Job Description:

You will be responsible for real estate fund reporting requirements to meet both internal and diverse global investor needs, particularly considering varying views on ESG topics. The firm aims to address sustainability criteria for distressed assets in its portfolio. The focus is on aligning with grid reporting approaches, UN PRI standards, and other frameworks like TCFD. The role involves influencing fund teams, platforms, and technology centres to improve reporting processes and ensure continuous improvement. Significance of adhering to industry standards, benchmarking, and collaboration with asset managers.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design interim ESG strategies that align with Article 8 fund requirements and GRESB standards.
  • Execute ESG risk assessments and due diligence for current and prospective investments, establishing frameworks for ongoing evaluation.
  • Develop an ESG reporting framework that facilitates transparent reporting and can be managed by the permanent team post-assignment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate ESG considerations into the firm’s business model and investment processes.
  • Initiate ESG training programs to foster awareness and understanding, ensuring a smooth handover to the succeeding team.
  • Stay abreast of ESG trends and regulations, implementing best practices that can be sustained beyond the temporary role.
  • Manage relationships with ESG rating agencies and stakeholders, establishing the firm’s commitment to ESG practices.
  • Support marketing efforts to highlight the firm’s ESG initiatives and progress made during the tenure of the temporary assignment.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, GRI).
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in ESG or sustainable investing.
  • Familiarity with ESG regulatory frameworks, including SFDR Article 8 and GRESB.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with experience in data interpretation and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in preparing handover documentation for process continuity.
  • Demonstrable experience in ESG strategy development within a temporary or project- based context.
  • Proficiency in ESG-related software and reporting standards.

Please note that this role is offered on a fixed-term contract basis, although there is the opportunity for the role to become permanent for the right person.
