In an era where the urgency of addressing climate change and social inequalities is becoming ever more critical, the need for sustainable finance is paramount. Recognising this, we launched our Sustainable Finance Mentorship Scheme last summer. It is a programme designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in sustainable finance, and to help everyone through these tough times!

Why Sustainable Finance Matters

Sustainable finance involves making investment decisions that consider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria to generate long-term competitive financial returns and positive societal impact. As businesses and investors increasingly recognise the importance of sustainability, the demand for professionals with expertise in this area has surged.

Sustainable finance aims to:

  • Mitigate Environmental Impact: By investing in green technologies and sustainable practices, we can reduce carbon footprints and combat climate change.

  • Promote Social Responsibility: Supporting initiatives that promote equality, improve working conditions, and support local communities.

  • Enhance Corporate Governance: Encouraging transparency, ethical behaviour, and accountability in business operations.

About Our Mentorship Scheme

Our Sustainable Finance Mentorship Scheme is designed to bridge the gap between aspiring professionals and the sustainable finance industry. Here’s what our program offers:

  1. Personalised Mentorship: Each participant is paired with an experienced mentor from the sustainable finance sector. These mentors provide personalised guidance, helping mentees navigate their career paths, develop relevant skills, and build their professional networks.

  1. Networking Opportunities: We are aiming to host a networking event, where participants can connect with industry professionals, potential employers, and fellow mentees. These events are crucial for building relationships and discovering new opportunities.

  1. Career Support: Our mentorship scheme also includes career development support, such as resume reviews, interview preparation, and job placement assistance. We aim to ensure that our mentees are well-prepared to enter the sustainable finance job market.

Success Stories

Already, we have seen incredible success stories from our pilot programme. We received the below feedback:

'I’ve been meaning to get in touch to say how much I’ve enjoyed being a part of the scheme and how much I’ve got out of it as a mentor.  My two mentees are fabulous young women, both with hugely impressive backgrounds.  I worked regularly with one of the mentees on a job transition and was thrilled when she got the job she was after – helping her search, prepare and map out what was next for her was wonderful.  My other mentee has been travelling and finding her niche – it’s been great to support her as she explores the Asian job market and provide a sounding board for the roles she’s considering. '

How to Get Involved

We invite passionate individuals to apply for our mentorship scheme. Our application process is designed to identify motivated candidates who are eager to make a difference.

Please go to the Sustainable Finance Mentor’s page and ask to become a member. You will then need to fill out the form posted on the wall, by mid-July, and we will get back with pairings in August.

Conclusion

The transition to a more sustainable world requires concerted efforts from all sectors, and finance is no exception. Through our Sustainable Finance Mentorship Scheme, we are committed to nurturing talent and fostering a community of professionals dedicated to driving positive change.

Together, we can create a future where finance not only generates economic value but also contributes to environmental sustainability and social well-being. Join us on this journey towards a more sustainable future.
