As renewable energy companies grow and compete for talent, we’re seeing a move away from old-school hiring practices. There’s more openness than ever to candidates with diverse backgrounds—great news for the industry! However, there’s still a common hesitation, especially during final hiring decisions, to consider talent without the “perfect” experience match. This cautious approach can lead to missed opportunities, especially for roles where the right personality, energy, and motivation matter just as much as the exact industry background.

In today’s competitive renewable energy market, expecting candidates to check every box on a job description isn’t realistic. Success often comes from the right team fit rather than a lateral move that simply matches the previous role. For instance, candidates from adjacent industries, bring fresh perspectives, skills, and resilience that can be powerful assets in renewables.

We make it our mission to look beyond the CV. We actively seek out candidates with unique experiences, valuing their adaptability, passion for growth, and potential to succeed in a new field. This approach reflects how the renewable energy landscape is evolving—toward openness and innovation. Embracing diverse talent can give companies a competitive edge, enabling them to build teams with a variety of strengths to tackle complex challenges.

So, how can companies adjust their hiring strategies to better serve their growth? It starts with focusing less on whether a candidate checks every box and more on whether they bring the drive, creativity, and problem-solving skills that renewables demand.

Does your hiring process look beyond industry-specific experience?
